Momma please stop cryin, I can't stand the sound
Your pain is painful and its tearin' me down
I hear glasses breakin as I sit up in my bed
I told dad you didn't mean those nasty things you said
You fight about money, bout me and my brother
And this I come home to, this is my shelter
It ain't easy growin up in World War III
Never knowin what love could be, you'll see
I don't want love to destroy me like it has done my family
Can we work it out? Can we be a family?
I promise I'll be better, Mommy I'll do anything
Can we work it out? Can we be a family?
I promise I'll be better, Daddy please don't leave
Daddy please stop yellin, I can't stand the sound
Make mama stop cryin, cuz I need you around
My mama she loves you, no matter what she says its true
I know that she hurts you, but remember I love you, too
I ran away today, ran from the noise, ran away
Don't wanna go back to that place, but don't have no choice, no way
It ain't easy growin up in World War III
Never knowin what love could be, well I've seen
I don't want love to destroy me like it did my family
Can we work it out? Can we be a family?
I promise I'll be better, Mommy I'll do anything
Can we work it out? Can we be a family?
I promise I'll be better, Daddy please don't leave
In our family portrait, we look pretty happy
Let's play pretend, let's act like it comes naturally
I don't wanna have to split the holidays
I don't want two addresses
I don't want a step-brother anyways
And I don't want my mom to have to change her last name
In our family portrait we look pretty happy
We look pretty normal, let's go back to that
In our family portrait we look pretty happy
Let's play pretend, act like it goes naturally
In our family portrait we look pretty happy
(Can we work it out? Can we be a family?)
We look pretty normal, let's go back to that
(I promise I'll be better, Mommy I'll do anything)
In our family portrait we look pretty happy
(Can we work it out? Can we be a family?)
Let's play pretend act and like it comes so naturally
(I promise I'll be better, Daddy please don't leave)
Daddy don't leave, Turn around please
Remember that the night you left you took my shining star?
Daddy don't leave, Don't leave us here alone
Mom will be nicer
I'll be so much better, I'll tell my brother
Oh, I won't spill the milk at dinner
I'll be so much better, I'll do everything right
I'll be your little girl forever
I'll go to sleep at night
Pink Family Portrait
It brings tears to my eyes each time I read this lyrics. It is just heartbreaking that what the lyrics said is true. Children aren't as clueeless as parents think, or would like to think. Even when the parents think they don't know, or don't hear, believe me, THEY DO.
They are the ones who cried themselves to sleep when their parents are arguing, they are the ones who keeps on blaming themselves for whatever the reason for their parents to fight. They are the ones getting torn apart between their parents. And they are the ones who PRETENDS that everything is ALL FINE - when it's not.
Is DIVORCE the only way out?? I won't say that divorce is wrong or right. Some people said that divorce is the only way for them to be FREE. They suffer in the relationship, they can't be happy, their spouse don't appreciate them, their spouse is having an affair etc. I wouldn't know, I haven't been married, I haven't been in the situation. So I wouldn't judge...
BUT. What I do know is that, in a divorce, someone WILL get hurt. There's no way around it. And the ones that ALWAYS gets hurt are the children. Everyone know this. Yet everyone IGNORES it. Because human will adapt - and so, (they thought) their child would too.
I am lucky to not face such drama in my life. My parents are still happily married. But, I have some close friends who are not so lucky. Oh, they turn out alright... well for the most of the time... only they usually don't believe in marriage, have a hard time in writing down their address, and developes hypertension. At times, they hated everyone and they practically don't trust anyone. Some of them have brilliant minds but they have this warped personality and their own world that no one else could enter. OH YES, they adapt just nicely...
Can a broken family be mend? I Don't KNOW. I hope it can. I'm sure the child HOPE with all their hearts it can and it will. I know for a fact that when my good friend tell me about their situation at home, I can't do anything to help, except to cry with them, or for them. I know for a fact that they are crying too, even when they don't show it, they DO.
If I had a wish, (aside from world peace) I hope that everyone will somehow find a way to mend their broken hearts. Along the way, we would definitely skinned our knees and break our hearts, but just as long as we could find a way to mend it, everything is going to be fine. We would still live - the way we know how to.
